IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS:
- Passport
- Yellow Fever immunization record
- Visa
- Insurance certificate
- Check with your country’s embassy for any additional documents required.
- Place copies of the above documents in your luggage and leave copies with loved ones at home in case of emergency.
- Make sure loved ones at home have copies of your birth certificate and Social Security card available in case of emergency.
MONEY:
- Money for exchange or spending in crisp, new $50 or $100 bills – used bills are typically not accepted
- Credit card that can be used internationally – note: make sure the financial institution knows your travel destination and dates
CLOTHING:
In Uganda, it is important to respect their culture that is much more conservative than ours. It is much more appropriate to wear modest clothing. One important reminder is that the weather in Uganda is typically 60’s at night and high 80’s during the day so bring layers.
- Men: should wear long pants most of the time, but in certain situations, shorts can be worn.
- Women: Should wear long skirts, pants, or shorts to the knee. Many toilets are squat only so wear something that makes the process easier.
- Women: Try not to wear clothing that is extremely tight or tops that show a lot of skin.

- Closed toed shoe – I frequently wore sneakers to keep the dirt off of my feet.
